SLANK BIOGRAPHY
S L A N K

Slank is formed in 1983
it all started as a junior high school band called Cikini Stone Complex (CSC), Bimbim on drums, boy on Guitar, Kiki on Guitar, Abi on Bass, Uti and Well Welly as the singers.This band used to play the musics of their idols, The Rolling Stones but this band wasn't going to last long enough. With this cousins Erwan and Denny, Bimbim - the drummer - began to formed a new band called Red Evil. Kiki which was one of the guitarists of CSC joined them. Another guy named Bongky also played the guitar for this band. While CSC where imitating the Rolling Stones, Red Evil had better concept besides playing an international band's number. Red Evil began to compose their own songs.
Even though the band was then now playing world chart rock numbers, the way they played the songs were very interesting as they always did this top chart rock song in their own way, which was classed reckless, ignorant and played with undetailed groove as the original artist played it. The supports from friends and some earlier fans called them SLENGEAN which exactly fits of the way they play and performance. Since then Red Evil change the name to SLANK.
Indonesian parents at that time were hoping their children could become engineers, doctors, accountants, bankers or any profession that was familiar to them. A musician or artist is not a profession in their thinking. Lucky for Bimbim his parents were always supporting 99 of his will to be a musician. They even let the boys have a practise and rehearse at their home in Jl Potlot 14. This place is known as SLANK's home base.
As the time goes on,a marriage of the brain, taste, feel, mood etcetera are undeniable. The band starts cahanging players one after another. Patience has given Bimbim good luck. At the 13th formation he got the great team to combat the music industry. It was the formation of Bimbim on drums, Bongky on bass, Pay on guitar, Indra on keyboards and Kaka as the lead vocals.
They started to take their demo tape here and there, from producer to producer, from record company to record company which doubted their ability in performing the music. At last Indra Qadarsih, the keyboard player at that time, introduced the band to Budhi Soesatio, their former producer. After listening to the demo, Budhi was interested in their music for Slank had, still has, a good blend of Pop, Rock n' Roll, Blues and Indonesian Ethnicity and it differed from the shelved music that years.
Boedhi's sense of business was proofed. Slank's debut album SLANK SUIT.. SUIT.. HE.. HE (Gadis Sexy) - released in 1991, punched the market with singles MEMANG and MAAFKAN and became The Best Seller which brought SLANK to receive the BASF Awawrd as The Best New Comer in 1991.
Ever since the debut,SLANK is getting more and more popular and has many fans all over
the country. They keep up with their new albums almost every year, i.e.:
2nd Album KAMPUNGAN - 1991
3rd Album PISS - 1993
4th Album GENERASI BIRU - 1994
5th Album MINORITAS - 1995
After the 5th album SLANK had to lose three of the players which included Bongky (bassist), Indra Q (keyboardist) and Pay (guitarist).
With only two personel left, Bimbim and Kaka, SLANK tried to keep alive. They made their 6th album, LAGI SEDIH, with help from their frends, Reynold, on guitar and Ivanka on bass. LAGI SEDIH, literaty mean 'Sadnes Moment' which, was showing their sadness left by the players, released in 1996.
The sadness become more deep when Reynold left the band while they prepared for the album's promo. For the purpose of that particular tour they held an audition to find a replacement for Reynold. Ivanka introduced Abdee Negara while Lulu Ratna, the manager at the time, introduced Ridho Hafiedz. The two guitarist had different characters and style so they decided to ask both of them to play. Over 100 songs were given to them to learn in only two weeks. Again with these players, Slank returned to rock the roads with the 14th formation.
Slank was back on the roads with these new players and recorded several new albums.

10th album - VIRUS released 2001
11th album - SATU SATU released March 2003
12th album - BAJAKAN

Today in the 20th year, Slank has taken the market segments for music that had not been touched by former markets. Slank has had the market share of 10of Indonesian listeners. Their fans, or more widely known as SLANKERS, are doing what ever they are told in their lyrics as most of the lyrics are expression of the youth bravery and rebellion of a generation against established culture. No violence is necessary on a rebellion done by Slank... it's a LOVE and PEACE rebellion.
The truth, Slank has become an icon for a generation to have spirit, solidarity and to be
someone.

Slank Tebar Perdamaian di Inggris

Kehadiran grup band Slank yang dimotori Bimbim dan Kaka di London menebar pesan perdamaian, bukan saja bagi penggemarnya, tapi juga rakyat Kerajaan Inggris.
"Slank juga menjadi duta diplomasi kebudayaan Indonesia di Inggris," kata Dutabesar Berkuasa Penuh untuk Kerajaan Inggris Raya dan Irlandia, Yuri Thamrin, di KBRI London, Selasa sore.
Di KBRI, Slank menggelar jumpa pengemar dan sekaligus mengadakan pertunjukan, setelah sebelumnya grup band yang bermarkas di Gang Potlot, Jakarta Selatan, itu tampil di "The Borderline".
Menurut Yuri Thamrin, seni merupakan alat yang ampuh dalam menyampaikan berbagai pesan perdamaian seperti yang dilakukan grup Slank dalam lagu lagunya yang berisi berbagai pesan seperti anti korupsi dan anti narkoba.
Grup musik Slank memiliki pengemar yang cukup banyak, tidak saja di dalam negeri, tetapi juga di berbagai Negara di Eropa, termasuk di Inggris yang jumlahnya lebih empat ribu orang.
Lebih sering grup musik Indonesia tampil di luar negeri seperti kelompok Slank, maka akan lebih baik lagi bagi negara Indonesia, dalam melancarkan misi perdamaian.
"Hal ini sangat membantu tugas diplomasi perwakilan Indonesia yang ada di luar negeri," ujarnya.
Berbicara mengenai Slank, Dubes yang juga merupakan salah satu "slanker" mengatakan, "Jika menyebut Slank, saya ingat akan dua angka yaitu 25 dan 17. Slank telah berkiprah di blantika musik Indonesia selama lebih 25 dan Slank telah menghasilkan sebanyak 17 album."
Dalam acara jumpa pengemar, banyak pertanyaan yang dilontarkan sekitar penampilan Slank dan juga lagu-lagunya yang banyak berisi pesan pesan perdamaian dan anti korupsi serta anti narkoba dan juga berbagai protes serta asal nama Slank.
Bimbim mengakui bahwa asal kata Slank berasal dari kata "slengean", yang bisa berarti sembrono dan dipersingkat menjadi Slank.
Dalam tur ke Eropa, Slank singgah di Pasar Malam Besar Tong Tong, Belanda, dan London, Inggris, serta Hamburg, Jerman.
Selama tiga hari tur di Inggris, Slank tampil di klub The Borderline dan di KBRI London. Mereka juga akan menyaksikan pertunjukan theater musikal "We will Rock You" di West End London.
Expo Slanker”S Indonesia
Expo Slanker”S Indonesia dimana seluruh perwakilan daerah memamerkan karya dan hasil alam mereka di satu kota. Kita ubah itu semua menjadi Expo Slanker”S Indonesia. Slanker”S setiap daerah pasti kreatif-kreatif banget. Disna kita adain juga festival musik Slank tahunnan (Kayak Slankers Day) dengan perwakilan dari setiap daerah. Dari baju Slanker”S Club aja kita beda ap lagi dengan yang lainya. Bener ngga?
